Barely-known newcomer Dan Gurney, who was not even
in the event’s program, grins on the start grid in Frank Arciero’s Ferrari 375+ at Riverside Raceway’s first
SCCA National on November 17, 1957. As the main progressed, Gurney followed Carroll
Shelby in John Edgar’s Maserati 450S past the field of top drivers to finish second behind the amazing Texan. The name Gurney was forever after recognized and respected in motor racing.

of Dan Gurney‘s from high school days in Riverside, California, where they began their racing careers with homemade
hot rods. Hudson placed 2nd in the Santa Barbara meet’s Under-1300 cc Production
class.
