410 Ferrari 0592CM - John Edgar photo

A breakthrough in digital scanning technology now makes it possible for Edgar Motorsport Archive to copy single frames from 16mm Kodachrome movie footage shot by John Edgar during the 1950s ... producing rare, vivid images.  The above of Carroll Shelby driving Tony Parravano's 410 Ferrari s/n 0592CM at Palm Spring in February 1956 appears as one of three such pictures in the current June/July 2005 issue of CAVALLINO as part of Michael T. Lynch's article on this famous sports racing car. Drawing from EMA'S thousands of feet of sports car racing footage that Edgar shot from 1953 to 1957, these stunning color images, previously unavailable, provide a major new source of original period photography for media license use and print reproduction, introducing a wide range of photographic choices for magazines, books, and private display.

Barely-known newcomer Dan Gurney, who was not even in the event’s program, grins on the start grid in Frank Arciero’s Ferrari 375+ at Riverside Raceway’s first SCCA National on November 17, 1957.  As the main progressed, Gurney followed Carroll Shelby in John Edgar’s Maserati 450S past the field of top drivers to finish second behind the amazing Texan.  The name Gurney was forever after recognized and respected in motor racing.
