William Edgar's 3-page article about Carroll Shelby
and the Petersen Museum's Tribute to him on November 8, 2007 ["Shelby Plays the Petersen"] can be found in the Jan/Feb
2008 issue of Vintage Motorsport magazine.
Pictured above on the Petersen Museum's stage, left to right:
Phil Remington, Bill Krause, Parnelli Jones, Jim Hall, Cleo Shelby (Carroll's wife), Bill Neale, Carroll Shelby, Bill Pilley,
Bob Bondurant, Don Prudhomme, Allen Grant, John Morton.
At the close of the evening, after many of Carroll's friends
and colleagues stepped to the podium to share their best Shelby tales, Carroll himself paid homage to a pair of his dearest
friends in this way: "When we lost Bob Petersen and we lost Wally [Parks], we lost two of the people who had done more to
fill this room tonight than Carroll Shelby ever did."
Quoting my article's final paragraph: Thus the evening passed into
history, always to be remembered. Special kudos for making it happen go to Tom McIntyre, who puts together these tributes
at the Petersen; to Checkered Flag 200 chairman Bruce Meyer, for his untiring gusto; and, to the Petersen's director, Dick
Messer, for keeping the Museum ranked high among the planet's best. And never shall anyone forget the Master of Ceremonies
excellence of Dave McClelland.

For his career's stories straight from The
Legend himself, Carroll Shelby, Shelby's full-page column ran each month in OCTANE magazine for 30 issues up to March
2009, where he had joined fellow Octane columnists Jay Leno, Nick Mason and Tony Dron. Octane, featuring the
automotive world's leading and most intriguing cars and personalities, is published in England on the last
Thursday of every month, and distributed worldwide.
